Red clover is a low-growing, flowering perennial in the pea family that is native to Asia, Africa and Europe and now naturalized throughout North America. Although the plant cannot survive in full shade, it does tolerate poor soil conditions. In fact, red clover is commonly found thriving in pastures and meadows where it serves as a forage crop for livestock and wildlife.
This herb is traditionally used topically to counter the symptoms of various skin conditions, such as acne, eczema and psoriasis. It is also used in cooking and is prepared as tea.
