Rose Petals Make for Pretty Products: Customer Spotlight

We’ve been exploring the uses and benefits of rose petals throughout our Herbal Insights Deep Dive. Like so many herbs, rose petals are incredibly versatile, wielding culinary, beverage, skincare and cosmetic applications. One of our favorite things about this beautiful herb is seeing how our customers utilize it. The uses range from reptile supplement products to the more common usage in soaps and cosmetics.

Home & Body Co. is one of our small business customers who has created a collection of products around the idea that ingredients matter. Their products aim to replace the harsh smells of chemical cleaning and soap products with beautiful, natural fragrances derived from herbs. Rose petals are just one of the many botanicals they use in their thoughtfully designed soaps, serums and room sprays. The husband and wife team of Hazem and Nadine Haddad created the company in 1997, marrying their chemistry and manufacturing backgrounds making herb-forward products like Lemon Verbena Dish Soap, Eucalyptus Mint Lotion, and Sea Salt + Roses Charcoal Scrub in their Huntington Beach headquarters. They started building their company at a time when herbal soap products were not as common outside of small, artisanal operations. What makes them unique is that they have created lines of products, each with distinct branding, that appeals to different types of consumers. Over the years, they have grown with the natural skincare movement and can be found at national stores like Target and Bed Bath & Beyond.

DIY culture is a huge part of the herbal-business world. Many herb-centric businesses originate from the hobbies and passions of makers. Another Herb Co. customer, Voyageur Soap & Candle Co., recognized that nearly 20 years ago, when they opened their retail shop providing ingredients, packaging and classes to crafters, manufacturers, massage therapists, naturopathic doctors and more. They are now an extensive online resource for body and soap-making supplies, from natural pigments and ingredients down to the containers needed to package the finished product. They even have complete DIY kits for beginners and hobbyists that could one day spark someone to create their own small business.
