Shepherd's purse is a common wildflower found all over the globe. Because the herb produces multiple seedpods along its stem that resemble tiny purses or hearts, it is known by several other names, such as mother’s heart, lady’s purse and witch’s pouch. This member of the mustard family is valued by herbalists and midwives for its calcium content, as well as the presence of oxytocin, a neurotransmitter also known as the “love hormone.”
