Like many other things, prevention is worth much more than cure when it comes to sunburn. Wearing sunscreen and appropriate clothing when outdoors is essential to help prevent sunburn and, more importantly, skin cancer. However, sometimes factors beyond our control keep us under the sun a bit longer than anticipated. When that happens, relief is as close as your kitchen.

Easy Cucumber Lotion

This soothing lotion is easy to make and cools the skin. Keep leftovers refrigerated and use within one week.

  • 1 small cucumber, peeled and chopped into small pieces
  • ¼ cup vegetable glycerin
  • ¼ cup rose water

Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Transfer to a clean jar with a lid.

Aloe & Lavender Sunburn Soother

Keep this in the refrigerator and spritz on skin when needed. It’s refreshing on a hot day, even if you don’t have sunburn!

Pour the aloe vera juice into a small spray bottle. Add the lavender essential oil. Shake before use.

Calming Chamomile Formula

This oil is great to use any time, especially after a bath or shower.

  • 4 ounces sweet almond oil
  • 20 drops chamomile essential oil

Combine the oils in a small plastic bottle with a squirt top. Lightly apply to damp skin and pat dry.
